What is Windows Application Programming Interface (API) and where i can find good tutorials for it ?

The Windows API is a several libraries of code that contains functions to interact with the Windows OS, it includes creating windows, accessing the hard drive, allocating memory, etc.... Most of the code is contained in kernel32.dll, user32.dll and commctrl32.dll.
